Recall: D'Orazio Foods frozen stuffed pasta

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that D'Orazio Foods, Inc., of Bellmawr, New Jersey, is recalling 161,000 pounds of frozen stuffed pasta products that were shipped to market before federal inspectors were able to examine them.

The products affected by the recall all carry the establishment number "Est. 20146" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product label and a "Best If Used By" date in the "12/01/11" to "12/01/12" range. This information appears printed on the back of each bag.

All items were shipped in 25-ounce poly bags and include: Albertsons' sausage ravioli, Albertsons' beef ravioli, Jewel sausage ravioli, Jewel beef ravioli, and Our Family beef ravioli. The products were shipped to distribution centers in California, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Utah.

The problem was discovered during a routine food safety assessment conducted by FSIS at the facility. During the assessment, agents determined that the pasta items were produced during a shift when FSIS inspection personnel were not on-site.

So far, no reports of illness due to consumption have been made.

Consumers with questions regarding the recall may contact the company's president, Anthony D'Orazio, at 856-931-1900, ext. 117. General food safety questions may be directed to "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at http://www.askkaren.gov/. "Ask Karen" live chats are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
